Jaime Gutiérrez, known as El Manco, scored 21 goals that season. The club had finished runner-up in 1953 and again in 1954. That same year they also took the Copa Cicrodeportes.

Nothing since has matched it. Under Óscar Héctor Quintabani the club reached a Primera A final in the mid-1990s with Rubén Darío Hernández and the Argentine Daniel Tílger up front, and the Argentine goalkeeper Carlos Medrano earned the nickname Antipenalty, but the trophy stayed elsewhere. Efraín Sánchez, the goalkeeper they called Caimán, both played for and managed the club in the 1960s.

The second-tier title of 2001 remains the last thing won. Quindío have since lost two Primera B grand finals, in 2014 and 2021, which is a particular kind of frustration. Deportivo Pereira, ninety minutes up the road, provide the Clásico Cafetero.
