The green and orange in the badge come straight off the municipal flag of Envigado, a town in Antioquia that gave the club its name and, on 14 October 1989, its founding purpose: to build footballers rather than simply field a team.

Envigado's only two league titles came in the old second division, Primera B, in 1991 and again in 2007. Above that tier the club has mostly gone as far as a good cup run allows: a semi-final finish in the 2025 Copa Colombia, ended by Independiente Medellín, and a run to the last eight of the 2015 Liga Águila, where the side finished the regular phase second. In continental competition, the high point was the 2012 Copa Sudamericana, where Envigado went out to Uruguay's Liverpool FC.

The club plays orange kit at home — El Equipo Naranja to their own supporters — at the Estadio Polideportivo Sur de Envigado, a ground that holds 11,000 and sits inside the town the club was built to represent.
