Bonsucesso

Bonsucesso itself grew out of a group of young sportsmen in the district, formalised on 12 September 1913, and its supporters still call it Leão da Leopoldina, the Lion of Leopoldina, alongside the gentler Cesso and Bonsuça.

The name attached longest to the club belongs to Leônidas da Silva, who arrived in 1930 and left two years later for Peñarol, having scored 55 goals in 50 games and, along the way, popularised the bicycle kick. The stadium in Rua Teixeira de Castro was renamed for him, and it was the club's home, including a 2013 auction that saw part of the ground sold off to settle a debt to Brazil's social security institute.

The years since have run in both directions — relegation to the Série B2 in 2024, then straight back up through the Série B1 in 2025, restoring the club to the A2 where so much of its history was made.

The ground that carries Leônidas's name now holds some 10,000 people.
