Garrincha closed his career at Olaria. In 1972, at 38, he turned out for the club one last time, in blue and white.
The club took shape in the Olaria neighbourhood of northern Rio de Janeiro on 1 July 1915, when a group of local football enthusiasts formed a side they called Japonês Futebol Clube. The name lasted only months. Director Carolino Martins Aranha had it changed to Olaria Atlético Clube.
It once held 12,000 people; fire inspectors have since limited it to 8,300.
Regionally, it has taken the Campeonato Carioca Série A2 four times and the Série B1 in 2021, though between 2022 and 2024 it reached three straight Série A2 finals and lost all three.
