The women's section at Breiðablik came out of a specific moment: 1972, the year Iceland set up a top flight for women's football. The club had a place to put a team, and it entered one.
That first run lasted, with a gap, until the mid-2000s. Then came the strangest line in the record: 1988 , a season spent in 1. deild kvenna , the second tier, which the club won to climb straight back. The titles resume in 1990.
The drought after 2005 ran a decade. Since it broke in 2015 the Blikar have won five more championships, and 2025 brought the league, the cup and the League Cup together. Forty-four trophies in all.
Home is Kópavogsvöllur , holding 5,501, though only 1,869 of those are seats — the rest stand.
Both the ground and the badge belong to something larger. The women's side arrived twenty-two years into that history, when a league finally existed for it to play in.
