Bremer Sv

The name tells you what the club was for. Bremer SV began as the "Bremer Ballspiel-Verein Sport von 1906", a ball-games association, and became Bremer Sport-Verein in 1920. Blue and white have stayed throughout, and the club is still called the Blau-Weissen.

The high point came early, after the war. In 1948–49 they finished fifth in the Oberliga Nord, then the top tier, and ended the season ahead of Werder Bremen. They spent 1965 to 1967 in the Regionalliga Nord, at the time the second tier, and then dropped back into the Bremen-Liga.

They stayed there for a long time and dominated it. Their 15 Bremen state championships are a record. Four of them came in consecutive seasons, from 2013–14 to 2016–17. Titles at that level do not bring a club much attention. The one season that did came in 2021–22.

That season they won promotion to the Regionalliga Nord without losing a league game. They also drew Bayern Munich in the first round of the DFB-Pokal, the German Cup, and lost 12–0 at the Weserstadion in front of 10,000 people.

FC Oberneuland and Blumenthaler SV are the opponents that matter, mostly because they meet in Bremen Cup finals. The media call matches against Werder Bremen II a "Stadtderby", though the club itself plays down the label.
