Peter Carey started the club in 2006 as a way of building up youth soccer in southern Orange County, drawing on his years as a Marine Corps veteran and local coach. What began as a grassroots programme now runs a women's side, Capo Women, in the USL W League, alongside the men's team that carries the Capo FC name.
The women play at Championship Soccer Stadium in Irvine, a 5,500-seat ground the club shares with its identity in blue and white. There is no nickname attached to the badge, though the crest carries two cliff swallows, echoing the birds on San Juan Capistrano's own flag.
Silverware so far belongs to the men's side, which took the inaugural National Independent Soccer Association Nation Southwest Division title in 2022 and pushed through to the second round of the U.S. Open Cup. The women's team has not yet added a trophy of its own, still building toward that.
Orange County SC and Orange County FC sit across the local divide, and matches against either carry the weight of shared geography rather than shared history.
