«The Generals»
That is how the club came together in 1917, when Chesham Town joined with Chesham Generals, a team named for the local General Baptist Church, and it is the second of those names that survived as the nickname: The Generals.
The ground's main stand burned down in 1983 and did not reopen until December 1984.
Fitz Hall's move to Oldham Athletic in 2002 brought in a club-record £22,000, while by 2005–06 Chesham were closer to going under, working through four chairmen and more than eighty players before a local businessman stepped in. The 1992–93 season carried its own sting: the Isthmian League Premier Division title came with no promotion, the Football Conference turning the club away on ground grading. Promotion did arrive in 2023–24, when the Southern League Premier Division South title took them into the National League South. Berkhamsted remain the derby that sharpens attention beyond the table.
Mark Lawrenson was in the side that won the league in 1992–93.
