Donau

The 1921 merger tells most of the story: SV Donau's current shape came from folding together with SC Olympia Wien, SV Lagerhaus Wien and Kaisermühlner AC, four Donaustadt sides becoming one club under blue and black. That district identity has stayed put ever since, based in the Kaisermühlen and Leopoldau corner of Vienna's 22nd district.

The club had one season among Austria's elite, in 1933/34, and went straight back down. Everything since has played out several tiers lower, in the Wiener Liga and its regional successors, with a long spell after the early 1980s spent outside the city's top amateur division altogether. Promotion to the Regionalliga Ost in 2005 lasted a single season before relegation reversed it. Two decades later SV Donau won the Wiener Stadtliga in 2023/24 and went up again, then repeated the title the following season to secure another promotion for 2025/26.

The 2023/24 Stadtliga campaign also brought the Wiener Landescup, won 1:0 over SV Dinamo Helfort in the final — a regional trophy and one that doubles as a route into the ÖFB-Cup.

What the club is best known for now is producing players who left before making their names elsewhere. Saša Kalajdžić came through the youth ranks at SV Donau as a boy before Vienna's bigger academies picked him up, and his path through Stuttgart, Wolverhampton and Frankfurt runs nowhere near Leopoldau. Marco Djuricin followed a similar route out as a youngster, toward Rapid and Austria Wien, long before Hertha or Brentford. The pattern repeats across older generations of the club's alumni.

Against neighbouring FC Stadlau, the Donaustadt Derby is the fixture that still matters locally. A national title, or a return to the level the club touched once in 1933/34, remains the thing SV Donau has not managed since.
