Erzgebirge AUE

The eins Erzgebirgsstadion in Aue-Bad Schlema holds around 15,500, tucked into the Ore Mountains and named the Otto-Grotewohl-Stadion and later the Sparkassen-Erzgebirgsstadion. It is where FC Erzgebirge Aue has stayed rooted through a run of identities: SG Aue in 1946, then BSG Pneumatik Aue, BSG Zentra Wismut Aue, BSG Wismut Aue, before the football side was ordered transferred to SC Wismut Karl-Marx-Stadt in Chemnitz in 1954. Supporters in Aue objected, and the team went on playing under the Chemnitz banner locally until the two rejoined as BSG Wismut Aue in 1963. The current name, FC Erzgebirge Aue, dates only to 1993, after a spell as FC Wismut Aue following German reunification.

The purple and white that give the club its nickname, "Die Veilchen" — the Violets — were first worn on 16 April 1966, against Hansa Rostock. In the DDR-Oberliga, the club's Wismut-era sides took the title four times through the 1950s, in 1955, 1956, 1957 and 1959, adding the FDGB-Pokal in 1955. Since reunification the honours have been thinner: a Regionalliga Nord title in 2003 and a handful of Saxony Cups, most recently in 2025–26.

The forward Harald Mothes remains the club's record goalscorer from that Wismut period, while Dietmar Pohl was captain from 1965. Aue's fiercest fixture is against Chemnitzer FC, the Erzgebirgsderby. The club dropped out of the 3. Liga into the Regionalliga Nordost at the end of the 2025–26 season.
