French Guyana

At the 2017 Gold Cup, French Guiana lost a match it had not played. Against Honduras the score is recorded as 0–3 because Florent Malouda, born in Cayenne and a France international with a World Cup final behind him, took the field for the Yana Dòkò while ineligible under FIFA rules. The result went down as a forfeit. It was the tournament's only such ruling, and it came in a team's first Gold Cup.

The rest of that campaign went the same way on the pitch: a 4–2 defeat to Canada, a 3–0 loss to Costa Rica, and last place in Group A with no points. Roy Contout, who had played in France for Auxerre, Amiens and Metz, scored in the Canada game. The same year the team had done something more lasting, beating Martinique 1–0 in the Caribbean Cup third-place playoff. The meeting with Martinique carries the most weight in the region for French Guiana, though it has no nickname of its own. Third place in 1983 remains the only other podium finish.

The team's position is an odd one. It represents a French overseas department in South America, is run by the Ligue de football de la Guyane, and has belonged to CONCACAF as an associate since 1978. It is not a FIFA member, so the World Cup is closed to it. It has played international football since 1936, and its name, "Golden Jaguars" in the local Creole, refers to the animal and to the yellow shirts. Blue shorts complete the kit.

Gary Pigrée scored 16 goals in 20 appearances, the most for the side, while Rhudy Evens has 63 caps. Games are played at the 5,000-seat Stade Georges-Chaumet in Cayenne. Players come mostly from ASC Le Geldar, ten times league champions, and from US Matoury and AJ Saint-Georges. The team now plays in League B of the CONCACAF Nations League, where it has met Belize, Guatemala, Honduras and Trinidad and Tobago.
