Sint Maarten

Philipsburg shares its island with the French side, Saint Martin. The first international match, on 14 June 1988, was a 1–3 defeat to Saint Martin. It came two years after the Sint Maarten Football Federation was set up. The return was slower. A 4–3 win over the same opponents came in 2019.

The SXM Team, as it is sometimes called, is not a member of FIFA. Its route into competition runs through CONCACAF, where it was an associate member from 2002 and a full member from April 2013. The best Caribbean Cup finish is the group stage in 1993.

Hurricane Irma in 2017 damaged the Raoul Illidge Sports Complex, which holds 3,000 people, 1,500 of them seated. Since then the "home" games have often been played elsewhere: in Curaçao at Stadion Rignaal Jean Francisca, in Puerto Rico at Mayagüez, and at the SKNFA Technical Center in Saint Kitts and Nevis. The team has had to take home advantage with it.

The high point came in the CONCACAF Nations League in 2022–23. Striker Gerwin Lake scored 17 goals to finish as top scorer in League C, and Sint Maarten won promotion to League B. He has 18 goals in 26 caps in all. Kay Gerritsen, the captain, has the same number of appearances.

In the 2024–25 cycle the team went down again, this time to League D.
