Hanwell Town

Railway workers from Newcastle-upon-Tyne, posted to west London for work, put together a football club in 1920 and dressed it in the black and white stripes of Newcastle United. A century on, Hanwell Town still wears those stripes, and the terraces at their Perivale ground still answer to "The Geordies" — a name that has outlasted the men who brought it south.

That ground has gone by three names. It began as Reynolds Field, took on sponsorship as the Powerday Stadium, and is now known as the Oliver Connell & Son Community Stadium, holding 3,000. The pitch itself was rebuilt in 2019 with Premier League investment, a rare piece of top-flight money reaching a club.

Silverware has come mostly in cup form rather than league titles. The London Senior Cup has been won three times — 1991–92, 1992–93, and again in 2024–25, more than three decades after the second. The league honours sit further back: the Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division in 2013–14, and the London Spartan League Senior Division in 1983–84.

The current group has produced its own name in Sam Beasant, a goalkeeper who came through Chelsea's academy and had already played for Stevenage and Cambridge United before joining Hanwell Town in October 2023. He took both the Players' Player and Supporters' Player awards in his first season, the kind of season a club this size does not get often.

What Hanwell Town has never had is an enemy. No fixture on the calendar carries the weight of a local grudge; the only rivalry the club has ever worn is borrowed.
