HSC Hannover

The club’s identity is tied to this post-war landscape: founded on January 15, 1946, when the Spielvereinigung Hannover 1897 and the Freie Turnerschaft 1893 Hannover merged, the year 1893 in its full name refers only to the lineage of the dissolved gymnastics society, not the club itself.

The team plays its home matches at the HSC-Stadion Constantinstraße, a modest venue opened in 1953 with a capacity of 3,000 spectators. The colours are green-white-red, though supporters call themselves Die Roten because they wear red kits. Their main rival is Arminia Hannover, and the derby between the two remains one of the few moments when the district truly notices them.

They also claimed the Landesliga Hannover three times, most recently in 2018, and the Amateurliga Hannover in 1956. The Hannover District Cup was added to the shelf in 1995.

Volker Finke played for the club from 1969 to 1974 before becoming one of Germany’s most respected managers, leading SC Freiburg through the Bundesliga. Today, the club competes in the Regionalliga Nord, the fourth tier of German football.
