KÍ Klaksvík has taken the Faroese Premier League title 22 times, a run stretching from 1942 to 2025.
The women's side has gone further still. KÍ Klaksvík Kvinnur won the domestic league every year from 2000 to 2016, seventeen titles in a row. They have followed every one of those championships with an entry into the UEFA Women's Champions League, and in 2023/24 they reached the group stage of that competition for the first time.
The men's team has had its own European nights. The 2023/24 campaign carried KÍ into the Europa Conference League group stage for a second time, and along the way they beat Molde in the third qualifying round.
Behind both teams sits an unusual structure for modern football: KÍ remains a members' club, owned by the people registered to it rather than by an investor, with Tummas Lervig currently chairing it. On the pitch, few names carry more weight in the town than Jákup Mikkelsen, who holds the national record for caps.
Seventeen straight women's league titles is the number that still stops people mid-sentence when KÍ comes up.
