Kosovo U21

Pristina spent much of the 2010s waiting for football to catch up with its status: a capital city with no seat at UEFA's table until international recognition arrived, and a senior side that needed players before it needed results. The under-21 team was built for that purpose, taking the field for the first time on 12 June 2013 against Ghana at the Valais Youth Cup in Le Bouveret, a friendly that finished 2-2 and became possible only after FIFA cleared the Football Federation of Kosovo to arrange such matches that February. Full UEFA and FIFA membership followed in May 2016, and the competitive fixtures started the following year: a 1-0 defeat to the Republic of Ireland on 25 March 2017 in qualifying for the European Under-21 Championship, the group's first taste of the tournament it had been formed to feed.

That feeding role is the point of the side. Vedat Muriqi, Milot Rashica and Amir Rrahmani all passed through the U21s before becoming fixtures for the senior team, part of a much longer list of graduates that turned the age group into the standard route into the Dardanët set-up rather than a stage in its own right.

Home matches are played in front of a crowd capped at 13,980 at the Fadil Vokrri Stadium, named after the former captain and federation president who did not live to see it open. No European or Mediterranean Games medal has come the team's way yet; the closest recent brush with a podium was a fourth-place finish in their group at the 2026 Mediterranean Games. Albania U21 remain the fixture that matters most, a qualifying-group rival without a formal derby name but rarely absent from the calendar. Afrim Tovërlani ran the side from 2022 until 2025, when Hekuran Kryeziu took over that November — one appointment in a short history still being written thirteen years after it began.
