Kottern

Kottern's fixtures with 1. FC Sonthofen carry more weight than most in the Bavarian leagues.

Kottern's history began outside the establishment. The football side started on 15 September 1925 as Freier Fußballclub Kottern, a workers' club, independent of the gymnastics association that had existed in the district since 1874. Under the Nazi regime the independent workers' clubs were dissolved, and in 1933 the footballers joined the parent Turn- und Sportverein. That is why the 1874 in the official name sits beside a football history that is younger. In 1971 came the merger with TSV St. Mang, which produced the name TSV Kottern-St. Mang.

After winning the 2. Amateurliga Schwaben in 1953, Kottern played in the Landesliga Bayern, then the third tier, from 1954 to 1963. They dropped out for a single season, 1959–60, won the 2. Amateurliga again and went back up. The club is still the same size of operation: a ground of 2,000 capacity in neighbouring Durach, now called the ABT-Arena, and red shirts.

The recent seasons ran in a loop. Kottern reached the Bayernliga in 2012 and went straight back down. They won the Landesliga Bayern-Südwest in 2015 and returned a year later. In 2024–25 they finished sixth in the regular season, then went into the relegation round against FC Pipinsried, 1. FC Sonthofen and SpVgg Unterhaching II. They did not win the group, and the drop to the Landesliga Bayern-Süd followed for 2025–26.

No Kottern player has reached the Bundesliga or 2. Bundesliga. The youth side has sent three to FC Augsburg's U17 Bundesliga team and into German youth national squads. Davide Dell'Erba is the first of them.
