Julian Nagelsmann turned out for it before an injury ended his playing career and pushed him toward coaching. Thomas Tuchel ran the side for a season, 2007 to 2008.

The Rosenaustadion, which holds around 28,000, was the reserves' home from 1969 until 2009, when the first team left for the WWK Arena. The second team went down the road to the Paul Renz sports ground, a small facility seating two or three thousand, and stayed there for years. For the 2024–25 season they moved back to the Rosenaustadion, a large stand-filled bowl for a side in the fourth-tier Regionalliga Bayern.

The reserves' best run came in 1977. After winning the Schwaben Cup, they entered the 1977–78 DFB-Pokal and reached the third round, where Hertha BSC Berlin knocked them out.

The road has had a gap in it. The team was disbanded in 1988 and did not return until 2004. Earlier, the Bezirksliga Schwaben-Nord had gone to the club in 1976.

The derbies are local. The Augsburger Derby is against TSV Schwaben Augsburg, whose football department merged with BC Augsburg in 1969 to form the club. The Schwabenderby is against FC Memmingen.
