Les Aiglons Dalheim

Dalheim is a village with one football club, and Les Aiglons have never needed a derby to explain themselves; the commune simply has room for one team, and this is it. What passes for competition has been the league table itself, and even that has been unkind for long stretches.

The club took its name in 1968, calling itself after the eaglet on the crest, and settled into a life spent mostly in the lower rungs of Luxembourgish football. A league reorganisation in the 1976/77 season did the club no favours: as second teams of the bigger clubs were folded into the senior pyramid, the space left for independent sides like Dalheim narrowed, and the Aiglons found themselves pushed down to the third division. They answered it, eventually, by winning that division twice, in 1973–74 and again in 1987–88, with two further runner-up finishes along the way. The Coupe de Luxembourg has stayed out of reach entirely; in the Coupe FLF, a quarter-final in 2012–13 remains the high mark.

What changed was the 2023/24 season, when the club came through the promotion play-offs from fourth place in the third division and went up to the second division for the first time in its modern history — the sort of step that, for a club this size, counts as a genuine breakthrough rather than a formality.

They still play at the Terrain Kierlingerstrooss, a ground that holds a thousand people, which tells its own story about the scale of the club and the village around it.

The name most attached to the club now is Tarek Nouidra, who had already done his time in the Luxembourg National Division with Racing Union, CS Hostert and Monnerich before turning up on the Aiglons' books.
