Maribor

The most recent, in 2021-22, kept the pattern going; 9 domestic cups, the last of them in 2015-16, sit alongside it.

The current club dates to 12 December 1960 , and the date matters because of what came before it. NK Branik Maribor, the city's leading side at the time, was disbanded that August after a poisoning scandal involving its players; Maribor was founded within months to take its place. Football in the city goes back further still, to I. SSK Maribor in 1919, but 1960 is the year the present legal entity claims as its own. A 1988 merger folded the club into the Branik sports society and produced the registered name NK Maribor Branik, though it has never played, or been reported, under anything but Maribor.

Ljudski vrt — "the people's garden" — has been home throughout. Reconstruction of the West Stand, finished in 2021, actually reduced capacity, from 12,994 to 11,709, a rare case of a ground getting smaller after building work rather than bigger.

Purple carries the identity before anything else, with yellow and white in support, and it gave the club its common name, Vijoličasti , the Purples.
