In 2006, MSV Neuruppin were still chasing the Regionalliga, beaten in the play-offs by FC Carl Zeiss Jena after finishing runners-up in the NOFV-Oberliga Nord for a second straight season. A year later the club that had come so close folded into insolvency and withdrew from its league altogether.
Neuruppin did not disappear. The club worked its way back down through the regional pyramid and won the Landesliga Brandenburg-Nord again in 2009. The exception came in 2005, when Neuruppin lifted the Brandenburgpokal and with it a place in the DFB-Pokal.
The club has worn several names over the decades — Empor, Konsum, Elektronik among them — before settling back into MSV Neuruppin after reunification.
