BFC Dynamo

Jürgen Bogs was in the dugout for all ten of BFC Dynamo's consecutive East German league titles, from 1979 to 1988. No other club in the DDR-Oberliga has a run like it, and the club's association with the Ministry for State Security, the Stasi, under Erich Mielke has meant the sequence has always been discussed with allegations of political interference and referee favouritism attached.

The club existed for a purpose. On 15 January 1966 its football department was detached from the multi-sport club SC Dynamo Berlin, following a directive from the East German authorities to create specialised elite football clubs. SC Dynamo had already won the FDGB-Pokal, the East German Cup, in 1959. Under Bogs the players who defined the decade came through: the forward Andreas Thom, the midfielder Rainer Ernst, and the young Thomas Doll. The club added the cup in 1988 and 1989, and the DFV-Supercup in 1989.

Reunification removed the sponsor and the protection. The club renamed itself FC Berlin in 1990 and did not find a footing in the unified league system. It went back to the name BFC Dynamo in 1999 and went into insolvency in 2001/2002, then rebuilt at the bottom of the pyramid. It won the NOFV-Oberliga Nord in 2014 and the Regionalliga Nordost in 2022.

The home ground is now the Stadion im Sportforum in Alt-Hohenschönhausen, which holds 4,500. The Friedrich-Ludwig-Jahn-Sportpark, the ground of the title years with room for about 20,000, is being demolished. The Berlin Derby against 1. FC Union Berlin remains the club's fiercest fixture.

In all, ten titles in a row, and none since 1988.
