Nagykanizsai ULE

Nagykanizsai ULE works in the shadow of that crowded local scene.

Its founding date is given as 1945, though what that year actually marks is hard to pin down — the club's separate existence under the ULE banner only shows up clearly in federation records decades later. Whatever came before, the club now plays in NB III, the third tier of the Hungarian pyramid, in the south-western group, well below the level where Nagykanizsa's football history is usually written.

Home games are played at the Olajbányász Sporttelep, a ground whose name recalls the town's oil-mining industry, also known locally as the Mező Ferenc Sportcentrum pitch. There is no rivalry with a name attached, but Nagykanizsai MTE sits across town as the closest thing the club has to a derby opponent, the two clubs drawing on the same limited pool of local players.

Cup football has been unkind. In the 2023/24 Magyar Kupa, the side went down 0-16 to Mezőörs, a scoreline that says more about the gap between Hungary's tiers than about any single afternoon. League form has stayed modest and unremarkable: 10th of 20 in the NB III Nyugati group in 2022/23.
