Independence Stadium in Windhoek holds 25,000, though it has not been the ground where Namibia actually plays. In 2021 the Confederation of African Football withdrew it from competitive use, so the Brave Warriors have had to take home fixtures across the border, into Botswana, rather than in front of their own crowd.
The team itself grew out of a country still finding its shape. Namibia became independent from South Africa in March 1990, and the Namibia Football Association was founded that same year, joining FIFA and the Confederation of African Football in 1992.
Namibia has otherwise finished runner-up in that competition four times, most recently in 2024. Deon Hotto , who holds the team's appearance record, scored twice in that 2015 final. The current squad is built around Peter Shalulile , the all-time top scorer and captain, who has won the CAF Champions League with Mamelodi Sundowns.
Before any of that, the team played as South-West Africa, taking the field for its first recorded international on 16 May 1989, a year before the country, and the association behind it, had a name of their own.
