Comoros head into the next round of African qualifying still chasing a first World Cup finals appearance. The 2025 season closed with a bronze medal at the COSAFA Cup, a 1-0 win over Madagascar in the third-place match.

Nothing the team does now is measured against much history — the federation only joined CAF in 2003 and FIFA in 2005, a quarter-century after the national side had first taken shape in 1979. El Fardou Ben Nabouhane and Ahmed Mogni, who scored twice, did the damage that night.

Stefano Cusin took over in October 2023 and stayed through the 2025 AFCON before stepping down in April 2026, with Hubert Velud now in the dugout. Youssouf M'Changama, the captain, holds the appearance record, while Ben Nabouhane's 20 goals lead the scoring charts — his and Mogni's names both attached, inevitably, to the Ghana match. Madagascar remains the team Comoros measures itself against most often, a rivalry kept alive through the Indian Ocean Island Games, where Comoros has taken bronze three times, most recently in 2023, and through CAF qualifying draws.

Home games are played in green, the colour of the flag, at the Stade Omnisports de Malouzini, and the side travels into its next qualifying window still looking for the result that would finally open the door to a World Cup finals.
