Marco Bifulco's club changed its name for the 2025-2026 season, dropping the old Napoli Femminile identity for Napoli Women. The team playing today did not start as one entity. It began in 2003 as ASD Calciosmania Napoli, merged with Venus Arzano two years later to form ASD Napoli Calcio Femminile, and then, when money ran short in 2017, that side merged again with Napoli Dream Team just to keep its place in the football pyramid.

A Serie A2 title from 2011-12 sits alongside the club's closest brush with a cup, a Coppa Italia Women final the same year, lost to Brescia.

The club is based in Cercola, outside Naples, and is one of only two women's sides in Serie A run independently of a men's club, Roma being the other. That independence sharpens the rivalry with Roma Women into the Derby del Sole, ahead of matches with Lazio and the more local derby against Pomigliano.

Alessandro Spugna took over as head coach in 2026.
