North Carolina Fusion

Brandt Bronico was picked by Chicago Fire in the 2017 MLS SuperDraft. Alec Ferrell went to Minnesota United FC and Aaron Jones to Philadelphia Union. Alex Martínez had gone to Sporting Kansas City three years earlier. The club's work is now described as development, and those four names show what that means.

That was not always the description. The club began in 1993 as the Greensboro Dynamo and won the USISL National Championship in both 1993 and 1994. It became Carolina Dynamo in 1996. Under that name it won the South Atlantic Division of the Premier Development League in 2006, 2007, 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2016. The National Amateur Cup followed in 2013.

In 2019 the club became North Carolina Fusion U23. The new name followed the priorities of USL League Two, the successor to the Premier Development League, which is built around bringing on young players. In 2021 the club reached the League Two Championship Final and lost to the Des Moines Menace.

Home games are played at McPherson Stadium, a 3,000-seat ground inside the Bryan Park Soccer Complex at Browns Summit, just outside Greensboro.

The fixture that matters most to the Fusion is against Tobacco Road FC, a rivalry known as the Triangle Derby.
