The academy itself has held Category One status since 2012, the top tier a club can be awarded.

Silverware at this level is a strange currency — it matters more for what it says about a group of sixteen- and seventeen-year-olds than for the trophy itself. Norwich won the FA Youth Cup in 1982-83 and again three decades later in 2012-13, a gap that says as much about the years between as the two wins themselves. The Norfolk Senior Cup has been kinder recently, taken in 2024-25. Promotion arrived in 2022, when the U21s won Premier League 2 Division Two and moved up to Division One, though the higher title itself has stayed out of reach.

When Norwich's academy sides meet Ipswich Town, it still carries the old East Anglian Derby weight, even at development level, because in this part of the country that fixture never plays like a friendly.

Nine academy graduates from this crop alone have gone on to first-team football elsewhere in England.
