Panthrakikos

The fixture that matters most in Komotini is the one against A.O. Xanthi, played out as the "Derby of Thrace". Panthrakikos itself came together in 1964, when AE Komotini and Orpheus Komotini merged into a single side, and for decades that side did not stray far from the second, third and fourth tiers of Greek football.

That changed after 2001, when new management began putting money into the club, and by 2004 the investment had turned into results. Promotion after promotion followed until 2008, when a third-place finish in the Beta Ethniki sent Panthrakikos into the Super League for the first time. Emilio Ferrera kept them there in that debut season, finishing eleventh, and the top flight got to know players such as Dimitrios Papadopoulos and the New Zealand international Marama Vahirua. The club's best domestic run came under Savvas Pantelidis, who took Panthrakikos to the Football League title in 2011–12.

The rise did not hold. Relegation from the Super League came in 2016, and within a year the club had withdrawn from the Football League altogether, undone by debts it could not clear. What followed was a stretch in the amateur ranks, worn in green and white at the Komotini Municipal Stadium. The climb back began there, and it reached its first real landmark with the Gamma Ethniki title and a return to Super League 2. A place back among Greece's elite, where Panthrakikos spent one full season, is still the one thing the club has yet to reclaim.
