Eduard Sacapaño, a goalkeeper who reached the Philippines national team, is one of the players Philippine Army can point to as their own. It fits a club whose players are serving soldiers, and the soldiers are also the club's main difficulty.
The Special Services Unit of the Philippine Army started the team in 1960 to promote sport and physical fitness in the ranks. Wearing army green and gold, the Troopers won the national championship in 1992 and again in 2001. Their rivalry with Philippine Air Force is known as the "Armed Forces rivalry".
In 2014 the Army side merged for a time with General Trias International and played as Philippine Army GTI. The merger brought in players who were not enlisted, among them Koreans. The club was disqualified from the league in 2015 and stayed out of the top flight from 2016 to 2022.
The return came in 2024, in the Philippines Football League. They have no ground of their own and mostly play at Rizal Memorial Football Stadium in Manila, which holds 12,873. During their time in the United Football League they also used the 2,000-seat Emperador Stadium in Taguig.
