The name belonged first to a team built far from the capital.
Under that name the club never rose past 7th place in Moldova's top flight, a ceiling it hit repeatedly before 2008, when the senior side folded into a farm team for the Technical University academy. Its one real trophy dated back further still: the Soviet Cup , won in 1973, long before the move to the capital.
The Politehnica UTM that took the field in 2025/26 has no line back to any of that. It began in 2010 as FC Saxan, based in Ceadîr-Lunga, in Gagauzia, and worked its way up under that name for years. On 28 May 2025 it reached the top division. Two days later it was renamed Politehnica UTM and relocated to Chișinău. A 7th-place finish sent the club down to Liga 2, and in May 2026 it reverted to Saksan.
What stayed behind in Chișinău was the ground: the Complexul Sportiv al Universității Tehnice.
