Victoria is the capital of an island nation, and the national side trains and plays on its outskirts: Stade Linité sits in Roche Caiman, with room for 10,000.
Most of them came against neighbours. Mauritius and Comoros are the rivals that matter, along with Madagascar. In the 2011 Indian Ocean Island Games final, Seychelles beat Mauritius on penalties to take gold. Ralph Jean-Louis was the coach that year. He took charge again in 2023.
The Pirates have never reached an Africa Cup of Nations finals. Twice they came close enough to finish third in a qualifying group, in the 2004 and 2017 editions. In 2004 they won at home against Eritrea 1–0 and Zimbabwe 2–1, and in 2017 they beat Lesotho 2–0 and drew 1–1 with Ethiopia.
The 2008 COSAFA Cup gave them their only win in that competition, 7–0 against Mauritius, still cited as one of the biggest shocks in its history. The gap runs the other way too: Comoros beat them 7–1 in a friendly in 2021.
The 2008 game belongs mostly to Philip Zialor, who scored four of the seven. He is the team's all-time leading scorer, with 14 goals in 33 appearances between 1998 and 2009.
