SG Sonnenhof Großaspach

Before there was an SG Sonnenhof Großaspach, there was Ralf Rangnick, pulling on the shirt of FC Sonnenhof Kleinaspach in 1990. Four years later, that club merged with SpVgg Großaspach, founded in 1920, and on 25 August 1994 the combined side took the name it carries today.

The climb since has been steady rather than sudden: champions of the Landesliga Württemberg in 2002, the Verbandsliga in 2005, the Oberliga Baden-Württemberg in 2009. The step that mattered most came in 2014, when Großaspach beat VfL Wolfsburg II in a promotion play-off, Sahr Senesie scoring the goal that sent them into the 3. Liga for the first time. They went back up again in 2026, this time winning the Regionalliga Südwest outright.

Locals still call the club Dorfklub - a joke at their own expense, given how far a side from a village in the Rems-Murr-Kreis has travelled. The WIRmachenDRUCK Arena, built with backing from investors including Alexander Hleb and Mario Gomez, holds 10,001, with 6,500 of those seats.

Stuttgarter Kickers supply the derby that matters most to Großaspach's supporters; VfB Stuttgart II gets a mention too, though not everyone in the stands rates that one as highly. The two old rivals met again in the 2026 WFV-Pokal final, Großaspach's third final win in the competition after 2009 and 2025. The scoreline read 4-1.
