Široki Brijeg

For five seasons running, from 1993 to 1998, the club's footballers were champions of a league most of Europe never recognised: the Prva liga Herceg-Bosne. Somewhere in the middle of that run, in 1995, the club took the name it still carries, Široki Brijeg. When Bosnia's clubs were folded into a single, unified Premier League at the turn of the millennium, none of those five titles counted toward a national record — and did so successfully enough to win the reunified Premijer liga twice, in 2003/04 and 2005/06.

Three Bosnian Cups have followed since, in 2006/07, 2012/13 and 2016/17. The city itself is small enough that a shirt sponsor or a cup run tends to be a local event rather than a footnote, and the team plays in front of it at the Stadion Pecara, with room for 5,147.

Known to supporters as Plavi — the Blues — for a home shirt of blue-and-white stripes worn against an all-white change kit, the club draws its noisiest backing from an ultras group called Škripari, a name that belongs to the terrace rather than the team on it. Široki Brijeg remains a fixture of the Bosnian top flight it helped reunify, still measuring itself against the same rivals it first faced when the country's football stopped being divided along the lines the 1990s had drawn.
