Star Starachowice

In the 1978/79 season Star finished second in the II Liga, behind Górnik Zabrze, on 34 points from 30 matches. The team from Starachowice spent 11 seasons in the second tier between 1970 and 1981, and the runner-up place came in the middle of that spell.

The club had been founded on 26 March 1926 by merging two local sides, Feniks and Orkan. It began as OMTUR, became SKS in 1932, took the name Stal in 1948 and became Star between 1951 and 1955. In the 1930s it won the Kielce sub-district championship three times: in 1934/35, 1935/36 and 1937/38. In 1965/66 it reached the quarter-finals of the Polish Cup and lost there to Pogoń Szczecin.

The original club went bankrupt in 2005. It was reactivated in 2007 as MKS Star Starachowice and started again in the lowest amateur divisions. In 2022/23 Star won the IV Liga Świętokrzyska, the fifth tier, without losing a match, and went up to the III Liga. The following season it took the Świętokrzyski Puchar Polski, the regional cup, beating Czarni Połaniec in the final on penalties. Czarni Połaniec are also one of the club's two derby opponents. The other is KSZO 1929 Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski.

The ground on ul. Szkolna once held up to 15,000 spectators. The club plays in green and black, hence the nickname Zielono-Czarni. Rafał Wójcik, who played for Star and later for Wisła Kraków, is among its better-known former players.
