Staten Island Athletic

Staten Island Athletic plays in USL League Two, the semi-professional level of American soccer, and has spent its short life trying to get out of the bottom of the table. It is not a Staten Island story by birth. The club was set up in 2021 by Anthony Lambert and Lauren B. Cramer as Springfield Athletic Sporting Club and entered the league from Springfield, Illinois, for the 2022 season. It finished last in the Heartland Division that year, and last again in 2023.

In early 2024 the organisation moved to New York. It first took the name Staten Island Monarchs, then rebranded as Staten Island Athletic Sporting Club. The move put the team in a crowded region: the Long Island Rough Riders, Manhattan SC and the Hudson Valley Hammers all play nearby in the same league. No feud has grown up with any of them yet. Since none of them are a rival in that sense, the club has looked closer to home, agreeing a player pathway with the local Staten Island Soccer Club.

Home is Hameline Field at Wagner College Stadium, which holds around 3,700. The club has won no major trophy in League Two, so the measure of progress is still modest: climbing away from the foot of the division it occupied in both Illinois seasons.

Two names stand out from the New York years. Dylan Meadows, a forward, made his debut in 2024, the first season after the move. Adis Mesic wore the captain's armband in 2025.
