Franck Kessié passed through the Stella youth academy from 2010 before the moves that took him to Atalanta, AC Milan and Barcelona.

The club itself came together in 1953, when three Abidjan sides, Red Star, Étoile d'Adjamé and US Bella, merged into one. Locally it is known as Les Magnans, after the driver ants of the region, and it plays in green and white at the Stade Robert-Champroux in Marcory, a ground holding around 10,000. Stella counts among the "Big Four" of Abidjan football, alongside ASEC Mimosas, Africa Sports National and Stade d'Abidjan.

The championship came three times, in 1979, 1981 and 1984, and the national cup three times as well, in 1974, 1975 and 2012. Continental success arrived once, the CAF Cup in 1993. More recent history has been harder: relegation at the end of the 2014-15 season sent Stella into Ligue 2, where it stayed for five straight years before working its way back up in 2020.
