SV Eichede

SV Eichede plays in Steinburg. The club has held its ground since the summer of 1947.

Their home is the Ernst-Wagener-Stadion, a modest venue with a capacity of 2,000. The stand namesake is more than a figurehead: Wagener served as chairman for twelve years, from 1962 to 1974, a period of consolidation for a post-war community. While some sources list the capacity as 3,000, the structure has never demanded a crowd of that scale. The stadium is functional, unpretentious, and sufficient for a team that does not chase headlines.

Their success is measured in regional terms. In July 2021, the senior side captured the Kreispokal Stormarn, beating Preußen Reinfeld 4:0 in the final. It was a significant result for a club that had spent years grinding through the lower tiers. That same level of effort saw them reach the DFB-Junioren-Vereinspokal in 2009/10 after winning the youth cup, though they lost 4:0 to 1. FC Saarbrücken in the opening round. The gap between the local and the professional remains wide, but the attempt was made.

The supporters call them the Bravehearts, a nickname that sticks because the team rarely seeks to overextend itself. They play for the badge, not the brochure. The club’s history is written in long service rather than short bursts of glory. Wagener’s era set the tone: steady, local, and enduring. The trophy cabinet holds one item, but the presence in the community is the real achievement.
