Union Fürstenwalde

The 2020 final of the AOK Landespokal Brandenburg put Union Fürstenwalde against SV Babelsberg 03, a side they meet often, and the cup went to Fürstenwalde. It dropped out of that league after the 2021–22 season.

Two clubs in the town, SG Union Fürstenwalde 1919 and FSV Wacker Fürstenwalde, merged on 12 June 2002 and formed the present FSV Union Fürstenwalde. The merger brought two histories together. Wacker came from the works side BSG Pneumant. The Union side had been called SG Dynamo Fürstenwalde from 1971 to 1990 and was affiliated with the East German Stasi. Under that name it won the DDR-Liga, the second tier, in 1979–80 and reached the promotion playoffs to the Oberliga. It also reached the third round of the FDGB-Pokal in 1988–89. After the fall of the Wall the club struggled.

The rebuilding came in steps: the Landesliga Brandenburg-Süd in 2008, the Brandenburg-Liga in 2010–11, and the NOFV-Oberliga Nord in 2015–16.

Marten Winkler came through the youth system and went on to play in the Bundesliga for Hertha BSC. Among the club's own supporters, the Unioner, the names Uwe Lehmann, Björn Bandermann, Christian Gawe and Thomas Brechler are still spoken of as legends.

Home games are played at the Spree-Arena, which has held 8,000 spectators and has also been known as the Bonava-Arena and the S-OS Arena. It sits inside the Karl-Friedrich-Friesen-Stadion sports complex.

None of this was there in 1919. The club started that year as the Fürstenwalde section of a Berlin club, SC Union 06 Oberschöneweide.
