Virginia Beach City

In May 2026 the club dropped the name Virginia Beach City and became Virginia Atlantic FC. The reason given was reach: the city name had started to look too narrow for a side that wants to draw from the wider region. The men still play in the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL), and the club now also fields a side in the USL W League.

The old name had a plain logic. Navy blue and gold were picked because Virginia Beach sits beside a major naval base, and the nickname, VBCity, kept the town in front of everything else. The club came in as an NPSL expansion team in 2013 and played its first season in 2014, finishing as runners-up in the Mid-Atlantic Conference. It was runners-up again in 2019.

The best year in between was 2017, when the team won the conference regular-season title.

Players have moved on from here to professional football. Sidney Rivera was drafted by Orlando City SC, and Shane Wiedt went through Loudoun United, the Pittsburgh Riverhounds and Sacramento Republic before reaching Detroit City.

The fixtures with Northern Virginia United are the ones the players talk about, and they are chippy. FC Baltimore Christos is the other side that makes the conference hard. Home games are at Powhatan Field, which holds 2,800 and sits in the Virginia Beach Sportsplex complex, though that complex is in Norfolk rather than Virginia Beach.
