Virginia Marauders

Lynchburg is about 100 miles from Winchester, and Hill City FC are the side the Marauders meet with the most edge. Games against them are described as intense and competitive. Northern Virginia FC, from Leesburg, is the other rival. Leesburg also has a link to the Marauders' home arrangements: for 2026 some accounts have the club playing at Segra Field, the ground of Loudoun United FC there.

Their usual base is Shentel Stadium, a 3,000-seat ground on the Shenandoah University campus in Winchester. The nickname comes with a pirate theme, and the club's branding often features a pirate flag. The 2023 home shirt was blue and gold hoops, with a gold and blue kit for away games.

The Marauders have not yet won a USL League Two league, conference or division title. The club treats development as its job, and the players it has sent on show it. Marqes Muir went from the Marauders to the University of Kentucky, earned All-Sun Belt honours, and signed with Lexington Sporting Club in late 2025. He was then loaned to Greenville Triumph SC. Owen Green, a defender from Leicester, England, came through Winchester before four years at Florida International University and spells in League Two with South Georgia Tormenta FC and Chattanooga Red Wolves SC. Jelani Peters, a Trinidad and Tobago international defender, moved on to Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC and made the Team of the Week in 2021.

All of this follows from what Ahmed Sheta set out to do. He founded the club with the aim of raising the credibility of soccer in western Virginia and giving local players a route upward. The United Soccer League announced the club's entry into USL League Two and the USL W League on 17 January 2023, and the first competitive season began that May.
