Western Mass Pioneers are looking for stability in the USL League Two.

The franchise was awarded to Gremio Lusitano in 1997, and the name 'Pioneers' was selected via a contest run by the *Springfield Union-News*. The club plays at Lusitano Stadium. The colours—red, black, and white—are worn without a separate nickname.

Success has come in bursts rather than as a continuous era. The early days brought the USL D-3 Pro League title in 1999, a year that also saw them claim the Northern Division. They won the Northeast Division in 2019 and repeated the feat in 2021, adding the Eastern Conference crown that same year.
