Herne Bay sits four miles up the coast, and Faversham Town further along the same stretch of Kent.

The club took its most testing years in the middle of the last century, when the Kent League folded in 1959 and left the Oystermen without a competition to belong to. It took the arrival of chairman Tony Rouse and manager Marc Seager, in 2006–07, to turn that around: promotion to the Isthmian League followed, and with it a different sense of what the club could be. Relegation came in 2015–16 and again in 2021–22, with Scott Porter steering a return to the Isthmian League in between.

None of it matches 2024–25. Whitstable went to Wembley and beat AFC Whyteleafe 2–1 to win the FA Vase. They went further still in the FA Cup, reaching the fourth qualifying round for the first time before Wealdstone ended the run.
