Slough Town also carries a sharper memory: it was Slough who ended the club's best FA Cup run, beating the Crusaders 3-1 in the First Round Proper of 1979-80.

The club grew out of works and village football in the town, taking shape in 1886. It spent a stretch inside the Isthmian League from 1978 before returning to the Hellenic League in 2003, and that return paid off: the Hellenic League Premier Division title in 2008-09 lifted Hungerford into the Southern League. Play-offs took the Crusaders up again in 2013, and by 2016 they had reached the National League South, the highest level the club has played at. Relegation from that division followed in 2023, and the Southern League Premier Division South let them go as well in 2026.

Born in the town, he played for Hungerford before a career that ran through Burnley, Queens Park Rangers, Southampton and West Bromwich Albion, and he came back to the club in 2025.
