Zwettl

The old ground, the Zwettltal-Stadion, was destroyed by floods, and the club had to find somewhere else: first Sportanlage Edelhof, then the ground it now calls home. In August 2023 that ground became the Waldviertler-Sparkasse-Arena, though some still say Sparkassenstadion. It holds 2,000 people, 600 of them seated.

Football arrived in Zwettl in the autumn of 1945. The section was founded on 15 October, and players were registered on 10 November. Two years later it became Sportclub Zwettl, and the statutes of 1947 fixed blue and white as the colours. The Blue-Whites have worn them since.

The club climbed slowly at first. Titles in the 2. Klasse Waldviertel came in 1948 and 1965, and in the 1. Klasse in 1951 and 1978. Then the pace picked up: the Unterliga North-West Waldviertel in 1980, the Oberliga West in 1981, and in 1984 both the 2. Landesliga and the Lower Austrian Master Cup. From 1985 Zwettl spent eleven seasons in the Regionalliga Ost, the third tier.

The stay ended in 1996, but the club did not stay away. Winning the Lower Austrian state championship in 1999 took it back up, and it went down again after two seasons. A second state title in 2005 brought a longer return, five seasons in the Regionalliga Ost until 2010.

The nearest rival is ASV Schrems, and matches between the two are known as the Waldviertel Derby. The town has had to rebuild its ground once already, and it is the arena on those matchdays that carries the name.
