The Asian Games Men's Cricket Competition is a unique fixture within the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) multi-sport programme. Organised with the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) as the technical partner, the tournament returned to the Games after cricket’s debut as a full medal sport in 2010 in Guangzhou, China. It was also contested in 2014 and 2022, though it was excluded from the 2018 edition due to organisational problems. The sport is set to feature again at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya.
The competition employs the Twenty20 (T20) format exclusively. It operates independently of domestic league pyramid systems, meaning there are no promotion or relegation stakes. Participation is governed by a standalone qualification process managed by the ACC. Full Member nations such as India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan typically receive direct entry, while Associate members must progress through the ACC Men's T20 Asian Games Qualifier.
For the upcoming 2026 edition, the men's tournament will expand to include eight teams. The top four ranked sides advance directly to the quarterfinals, whereas the remaining four compete in a preliminary group stage. Past winners include Bangladesh, who claimed gold in 2010; Sri Lanka, who won in 2014; and India, who secured the title in 2022 after missing the previous two editions.
The event distinguishes itself from other Asian cricket competitions like the ACC T20 Cup by functioning as a multi-sport medal contest. This structure requires participating teams to balance their cricketing ambitions with broader national sporting duties. The successful hosting of the 2022 edition in Hangzhou demonstrated that logistical challenges regarding venue infrastructure could be overcome, ensuring the sport’s continued presence on the Asian Games calendar.
