Bangladesh Emerging in Sri Lanka (Sierra Leone) 2023/24

The bilateral series known as Bangladesh Emerging in Sri Lanka is a fixture between the developmental squads of Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. These tours are not a branded tournament but a series of matches arranged by the Sri Lanka Cricket and Bangladesh Cricket boards to bridge the gap between Under-19 cricket and the senior national teams. The participants are national Emerging Teams, typically comprising players aged under-23 or under-25.

Unlike regional tournaments involving multiple nations, this series is a head-to-head contest. The format is flexible and determined by mutual agreement, usually including three matches of Unofficial One Day International cricket and two matches of Unofficial Test cricket. These matches are classified as List A and First-Class respectively, carrying less prestige than full international fixtures but providing vital experience for younger players. Selection policies allow for a mix of uncapped talent and those with limited senior experience, often serving as a platform for experimental team compositions.

The inaugural tour occurred in August 2019, when the Sri Lankan side visited Bangladesh. The reciprocal visit took place in October and November 2023. During the 2023 series, Sri Lanka won the limited-overs contest by two matches to one, while the multi-day series concluded in a draw. There is no permanent trophy or historical champion associated with the series, as it is not an annual league event. It exists primarily to offer high-pressure environments for players transitioning to senior level cricket.

The competition does not carry the full weight of official international status, distinguishing it from the premier senior bilateral series between the two countries. Nevertheless, it remains a critical component of player development in Asian cricket. The matches provide a testing ground for techniques and strategies that may later be applied at the highest level. Both boards view these engagements as essential for nurturing the next generation of cricketers.
