The Bhutan Quadrangular T20I Series is a standalone cricket tournament organized by the Bhutan Cricket Council Board (BCCB). It serves as a developmental event providing T20 International status and competitive exposure for associate member nations, rather than functioning as a direct qualifier for the ICC Men's T20 World Cup. This distinction separates it from the ACC East Asia-Pacific (EAP) Qualifiers, which constitute the official regional pathway for World Cup spots.
The competition features four national teams: Bhutan, Indonesia, Maldives, and Thailand. Matches are hosted at the Gelephu International Cricket Ground. The format consists of a single round-robin group stage where each team plays the other three once, followed by a knockout phase including semi-finals, a third-place playoff, and a final. The tournament made its inaugural appearance in October 2024, marking the first edition of this specific branded series.
While Bhutan has participated in similar quadrangular events previously, such as the 2022 tournament hosted in Malaysia, this 2024 iteration is distinct. The earlier event featured Malaysia instead of Indonesia, and Malaysia won that specific title. As a new series under this current name, there are no historical records of multiple wins by a single team. The 2024 edition concluded with a final between Thailand and Maldives that was abandoned without a ball bowled due to weather conditions. Sources vary on the outcome; some list Maldives as the winner, while others note the match status as abandoned with no official title declared.
This structure allows associate members to gain valuable experience without the immediate pressure of high-stakes world qualification. The focus remains on player development and regional cooperation through regular international fixtures. The inclusion of Indonesia alongside traditional regional participants highlights the expanding scope of cricket within the East Asia-Pacific region.
