The Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League (DPDCL) serves as the premier domestic List A cricket competition in Bangladesh. Organized by the Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis under the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), the tournament represents the traditional club-based pyramid system of the sport in the country, standing in contrast to the commercial franchise model of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). The league operates on a structure that links local sporting heritage with competitive progression.
The competition format divides the participating teams into two distinct phases after an initial round-robin stage. The top six sides advance to a 'Super League' contest aimed at securing the championship title. Meanwhile, the teams at the lower end of the table enter a 'Relegation League', playing to avoid demotion. This mechanism ensures direct connectivity between the premier division and the Dhaka First Division Cricket League. The bottom side in the Relegation League faces demotion, while the leading teams from the First Division move up, maintaining a fluid hierarchy within the sport’s domestic structure.
Historical milestones shape the identity of the league. It was inaugurated in the 1973–74 season and achieved official List A status in 2013–14, replacing the National Cricket League One-Day. The tournament has passed through notable periods, including a hiatus in 2012–13 and a pandemic-related suspension of the 'Bangabandhu Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League' edition in 2019–20. Despite these interruptions, the competition retains its core character, defined by clubs with deep social ties rather than corporate ownership. Abahani Limited holds the record for the most titles, with approximately 24 victories, while Mohammedan Sporting Club recently concluded a long wait by winning the 2025–26 season.
Currently, the league features twelve clubs, including long-standing entities such as Gazi Group Cricketers and Prime Bank Cricket Club. The structure prioritizes local rivalry and traditional sporting club participation over the commercialized format seen elsewhere in Bangladesh.
