About

The Hong Kong Premier League (HKPL) stands as the premier domestic cricket competition in Hong Kong, organized by Cricket Hong Kong (CHK). Established in the 2015–16 season, it began as the One-Day Tournament before evolving into a multi-format event that now includes Twenty20 (T20) fixtures. The league features five traditional member-based clubs: Kowloon Cricket Club (KCC), Hong Kong Cricket Club (HKCC), Diasqua Little Sai Wan Cricket Club (DLSWC), United Services Recreation Club (USRC), and Pakistan Association of Hong Kong (PAHK). It operates as a standalone top-tier league with no promotion or relegation system.

The competition structure typically involves a round-robin group stage among the five teams, followed by a final match between the top two qualifiers. In the 2021 season, the tournament featured the T20 format. Hong Kong Cricket Club emerged as the champion in that year's T20 title race. Kowloon Cricket Club remains the most successful entity in the competition's history, having secured multiple titles across both One-Day and T20 formats, including the 2021–22 One-Day title and the 2022–23 T20 title.

The HKPL serves as a distinct platform from the defunct Hong Kong T20 Blitz, which utilised a franchise-based model featuring international stars. In contrast, the Premier League focuses on domestic talent and club heritage. The five participating clubs represent long-standing cricketing traditions within the region. The league does not connect to lower divisions such as the Sunday Elite League, maintaining its status as an independent top-tier competition. This structure ensures that the focus remains on the development of local players through traditional club affiliations rather than commercial franchise teams.
